LiDAR has a property photogrammetry does not: pulses pass through gaps in foliage. A single scan returns both the canopy surface and the ground beneath it, which is what makes individual tree measurement possible at all.

Measuring a canopy, not guessing at it

From a classified cloud we extract each tree as a discrete object: stem location, total height, crown spread and canopy volume. On an estate or a road corridor that turns a vague “mature trees along the boundary” into a table you can plan against.

Where it changes the outcome

  • Construction clash avoidance — knowing crown spread and likely root protection zones before the foundation line is fixed, not after an arboricultural objection
  • Overhead line corridors — vegetation encroachment measured against clearance envelopes, repeatable each season
  • Plantation and estate management — stocking density, growth between captures, and yield modelling from real canopy volume
